Coyote

To see the world of fable from a faithful, fertile heart and mind can too be favor;
a lesson for the true believer.

A seed was set in negligence,
and so Bugs Bunny attitudes
flew like a red-eye flight for the Varmint,
Crying over fools and the uncivilized,
Growing in wisdom from the you know Who,
A pro who learned how to be at home in a hole,
was taught to forget the good old me,
The one who called it family,

Gone is the one who worried
having been rolled up in carpet
to be dumped from memory,
Gone is a fan of Creation,
One who knew that God was always there
even though you didn’t see,
The fool who laughed with gusto
at the opposite of funny,
Gone, the baby hippie chick smiling from the trees,
Cooking up the harvest and planting the seeds,
The one who trusted wrongly,
waited far too long,
for validation.

And now, you will remember to calm your abraision-
My simple tastes are a complex no,
And a subtle brand of forgiveness,
Downplaying and praying that excess,
is just the long way home,
I remember you being a blessing to me,
As I remember blessing you,
The attractive taste of differences,
The Amsterdam light of your wicked eye,
The alchemy of our musiConnection,
The orchid scent of our conversations,
The nerds that couldn't see,
all the genius bursting from our brains
before the invasion of time and change,

I missed the thrill of our elevation,
and the you I knew, speaking to
why some get old to become the Coyote,
Voiceless and naked in searing deserts,
Desperately seeking a joy to obsess,
Choking to death for a skinny Road Runner
when there is so much more to bless,
I want to hear from the love I knew
on exactly when the lack and hunger began to feel good
to creatures who claim it's God they choose,
Starving, just like that old Coyote
who never did get an ounce of food
from the Acme lord he prayed to,

Caught in his own trap, waiting for change,
wondering why things stay the same,
Believing on weak, and man-made contraptions
while playing to lose
another man's game
